Pavilion for the Festival of Cinema in Girona
The new folie for the Cinema Festival of Girona takes new relation with the place and the time.
The aim of the competition was to dignify and make an identitive entrance to the festival. Moreover, the entrance is a limit between the old city and the Eixample of Girona.
The proposal, playing with the idea of the absolute, consisted in creating a circular and structural folie with four columns and covered by a red curtain with the typological identification of the cinema.
This four meters high folie was a giant habitable lamp that takes a relation with the two preexisting lamps, the squared sculpture by Jaume Plensa and the octagonal bell tower of the Cathedral of Girona. This element relates to the specifity of the place and the monumentality of the form.
